The Rock of Faithfulness Speaks Truth but is Anyone Listening?

4  The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

Deuteronomy 32:4 (NASB)

4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Deut 32:4 (KJV)

16 So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth ?
Galatians 4:16 (NASB)

“Do these pants make my butt look big?” this is a question guys never want to hear.  Before I had to hear it from y wife I made a preemptive strike.  I explained that if she wanted to know what I truthfully thought about anything, all she had to do as ask; and I would tell her.  I reiterated that I would tell her the truth no matter what the truth was, including, and I really said this, that the pants did make her butt look big if that was what I thought.  My wife has never been angry with me over my answers to her questions, though she is often not happy with the response (and angry with me for other, well-deserved reasons).

We often ask God questions for which we really do not want a truthful answer. In fact, we already know the true answer, we just don’t want to believe it or accept it.  God doesn’t change who he is or what he believes.  He is immutable and unchangeable.  He is love made real.  The things God likes and doesn’t like have been given to us.  It is up to us to read the words, study the words, and internalize the words.

If you ask God a question, he will answer.  Really, he will answer.  The answer can take any form though so be listening.  Keep in mind though, that if you ask him a question he is going to tell you what he thinks, he is going to tell the truth. What he thinks may not line up with what you think he thinks either, but that doesn’t mean he is against you or your enemy.

Like the verse from Galatians, don’t conclude God is your enemy if he gives you an answer you don’t like.  On the contrary, God is the one true ally you have.  God will never turn his back on you, he will never leave you, he will never abandon you.  God is always there, waiting for you to turn to him and talk, just talk.  Everything begins with one simple word, Hello.

He is the Rock.  He is always there.  He is faithful.  He is truth.  He is always waiting, just like the parable of the Prodigal Son, waiting to embrace the returning child, no matter what has gone before.  Make that first move.  Say Hello and open the conversation.  He can hear you, and he wants to listen as well as help because he thinks You Are Worthy.

Questions for Reflection

  • Do you listen for answers from God?  Why or why not?
  • Does God provide answers to questions and prayers?  If so, how does he do this; and if not why not?
  • What do you do when you identify something as an answer from God?
